AMD, being one of my beloved processor, which I have witnessed myself how AMD processor out-performed its competitor. After the season of AMD Athlon XP, here come with many big brothers, which are AMD 64, Dual Core and FX.
Many users are confused about the model number given by AMD, the model number does not mean the processor running speed, but perhaps is only marketing strategies or etc. For example, Athlon XP 3000+ does not run at 3.0GHz, but in actual fact the processor is running at about 2.17GHz. Do not be disappointed with the small 2.17GHz of the processor, you will be surprise how it out-performed the competitor which has true 3.0GHz processor speed. I shall say the numbering given by AMD perhaps served as a benchmark the performance is equivalent to the competitor 3.0 GHz speed.
To clear your doubts about the true GHz run by the processor, I have consolidated the list of all AMD models for AMD64, AMD Dualcore and AMD FX for your reference.
Based on our beloved game, Frozen Throne, let us understand which graphic cards served us right.
These graphic cards are the version in year 2003-2004 when the Frozen Throne first launched, the comparison only up to ATI9800 series and nVidia 5 series.
However, point need to take note is nVidia 6 series does not mean better then 5 series in terms of graphic resolution and etc, for example, the 6200 will not be able to compete with 5700 and 5200 will certainly unable to compete with Ti4200 and etc. So sometimes you need to do some study and do not let the numbering of the model to confuse you.
Glad to see that my card is still within top few at that time.. but not sure how the benchmarking for the nVidia 6 series and ATI X series on this game.
Consolidated the general price for the GPU 6600GT to 6800Ultra for comparison.
Personally I found that 6600GT is a good card in terms of ratio of price/quality.

One of the possibility of lagging in game is the background download. Some of you may encountered lagging while playing game even though you did not download anything awarely.
However, if you are using Window XP SP2, then you need to be extra careful of the background updates. Your operating system may be running the background downloading of the window xp critical updates or security patches, which you are totally not aware of.
If you encountered uncommon lag which you are aware that you did not download anything, please disable the auto updates of the Window XP temporarily.
This occured during 12-14 October 2005, if you encountered lagging in dota or ladder between this period, dont curse your internet provider and your host.. :)

There are many types of ATI X800 in the market and sometime is quite confusing for buyer to decide which type they shall purchase.
In general, there are 8 types as at now available in the market, X800, X800SE, X800GT, X800GTO, X800Pro, X800XL, X800XT and X800XTPE. All of them have slight differences in terms of the GPU using, thier Mhz of the core and memory. The above table has shown their differences in general.
