Resetting of Ladder on 26-September 2005

1.19 Ladder Implementation
An updated version of the Warcraft III ladder Automated Match-Making System (AMM) will be deployed alongside the ladder reset on September 26. This is the technology that allows players to find opponent’s of similar skill to compete against on Battle.net ladders. Although

Season Three is focused on the solo competition, we’ve made updates to the ladder that we feel will positively impact the experiences of all players on Battle.net.

Search Times vs. Game Quality. There is a reverse correlation between the two. The longer the system waits to find an opponent of similar skill, the more likely it is to find a closely matched opponent. Conversely, we can reduce the search time for an opponent at the expense of making skill levels more disparate. We’ve re-evaluated this trade-off for all ladder formats.

Random Team. We’ve increased game quality of Random Team games significantly.
Solo. We’ve increased game quality of solo competition moderately.
Arranged Team. We’ve decreased search times for Arranged Teams significantly.

Minimum Game Requirements. Game requirements now scale better across the entire level range.These requirements have been slightly increased for players of levels 1-50 and significantly decreased from the existing numbers for players over level 50.

Less Sensitive Experience. The way experience is calculated has been modified to make it less sensitive moving away from the mean. The target level for the average player has not changed, but players will be distributed in a tighter group at the peak of the level bell curve. For the majority of Battle.net players, the achieved level will be similar between the old and new systems. However, for very strong players, it will be more difficult to progress into the higher levels.

MAPS
(2)EchoIsles
Added range creep to expansion goldmines.
Replaced both Fountain of Health with Mercenary camps and changed the creep composition so that it’s not all piercing attack.
Replaced the mana fountain with a Market Place and changed the level 3 perm item drop to level 3 charged items.
Replaced one Troll Trapper with an equal level Ogre to the all troll trapper green camp next to each start location.

Added a tavern to each side of the map, reduced the creep level and item that guard the Mercenary buildings, and reduced two Orange creep camps and level of the item drop.

Opened areas of the map to help alleviate strong choke points that favor ranged unit combat.

Replaced the 4 center orange camps with 4 green camps.

Items
Creep-dropped item sell prices have been standardized. Items of the same level will now generally sell for the same amount.

Undead
Skeletal Mastery research time reduced to 30 seconds from 45 seconds.
Skeletal Longevity research time reduced to 15 seconds from 30 seconds.
Exhume Corpses research now costs 75 gold / 50 lumber down from 125 gold/ 100 lumber.
Destroyer armor reduced to 3 from 4.

Orc
Spiritwalkers now have the passive Resistant Skin ability. This causes some spells such as Cyclone and Slow to have a much shorter duration when used on a Spiritwalker. Resistant skin also grants immunity to certain other spells such as Polymorph and Possession.
Ensnare duration reduced from 15 seconds to 12 seconds.
Batrider hit points reduced to 325 from 400.

Night Elf
Tree of Life build time increased to 120 seconds from 110 seconds.

Human
Human Towers (Guard, Cannon, Arcane and Scout) now gain 1 armor per masonry upgrade, down from 2. WORLD EDITOR CHANGES

The "Image" category and actions now appear after the "Item" category.

Using Dual Channel Correctly

Using Dual Channel

Dual Channel requires at least two modules for operation. It is recommended that the modules you use be of the same size, speed, arrangement etc. Dual Channel is optional on the original nforce2 motherboards and nforce2 ultra400. You can choose to run in single channel mode on these motherboards. Nforce2 400 boards are singe-channel only. Most dual channel capable nforce2 motherboards come with three slots. On these motherboards the first memory controller controls only the first slot (or the slot by itself), while the second memory controller controls the last two slots (which are usually closer together). Name them slots 1, 2 & 3 respectively. To implement Dual Channel, it is necessary to occupy the slot 1 (channel 0) and either one of the two slots that are closer together, slots 2 or 3 (channel 1). The entire config would be running in 128 bit mode.

You can use three modules in Dual Channel Mode, by filling the third unoccupied slot. With three sticks, slots 1 remains as channel 0 while slot 2&3 become channel 1. To maintain 128-bit mode, with all three slots filled, each channel must have an equal amount of memory. For example, slots 1 should be filled with a 512 Mb module, while slots 2 & 3 are populated 256 Mb modules. If you were to use three modules of the same size, then only the first two modules would be running in 128 bit Dual Channel Mode. Example, using 3x 256 Mb modules will have the first 512 Mb running in 128 bit Dual Channel mode, while the remaining 256 Mb will be in 64-bit Single Channel mode. Intel dual-channel systems are different. The have either two or four slots, and to run dual channel mode must have either one or two pairs of (hopefully) matching modules.

Running three modules on a P4 system will force it to run in single channel mode, and is therefore to be avoided. Consult your motherboard manual for instruction on exactly which slots exactly to use.
